 VALVES

Single Valve

DESCRIPTION:
The Single Valve utilizes one silicone elastomer dome with a CRx slit in an MRI compatible surgical stainless steel or polysulfone housing surrounded by a thin silicone sheath.. The low carbon stainless steel is non-magnetic to minimize MRI artifact. The polysulphone version is unaffected by MRI and produces no artifact. This valve mechanism achieves opening and closing actions similar to those of the Cruciform valve. The valve housing is marked with pressure designation, lot number, and a flow direction arrow.

The Single valve may be used as a primary valve, in conjunction with a ventricular catheter reservoir and distal catheter to control the CSF pressure and flow. Alternatively, the Single valve may be added to the distal tubing of an existing shunt shunt system to reduce overdrainage.

The performance of the valve is such that flow rate increases gradually with increasing differential fluid pressure and, conversely, decreases gradually with decreasing differential fluid pressure.

This graph describes the inlet fluid pressure necessary to drive fluid, influenced by a pulse, through the valve at corresponding flow rates. They reflect in vitro test results and not the intracranial pressure of the patient after implantation. The nominal pressure represents operating pressure at the 10cc/hr flow rate. The nominal pressure specifications at other flow rates are found by following the horizontal lines to the right side pressure scale.
