DESCRIPTION:
Accura valves are available with either one mechanism or two precision
ball-in-cone valve mechanisms in series separated by an integral
silicone elastomer pumping chamber. The valve mechanism of the Accura
Elite consists of a synthetic sapphire ball and non ferrous MRI
compatible spring and polysulfone housing. The non-ferrous cobalt
chrome to minimize MRI artifact. Each valve mechanisms open in response
to predetermined differential pressure and close when differential
pressure has dropped below a predetermined level.
The Accura Elite SoLo shunt utilizes one valve mechanism with no
integral pumping chamber to achieve the same opening and closing
actions. The design of the valve mechanism prevents retrograde flow
to the brain.
The Accura Elite Standard shunt and the Valve Only assemblies feature
in-line silicone elastomer antechambers, which are self-sealing

penetrated by a 25 gauge or smaller Hueber-point needle or equivalent
non-coring needle. This permits removal of CSF samples, as well
as injections of contrast media, medication, or flushing fluid.
An MRI compatible needle stop is provided with the in-line antechamber
to prevent inadvertent puncture of the distal wall of the chamber
upon injection. The Accura Elite Integral and SoLo shunts feature
an MRI compatible polysulfone burr hole Rickham-style reservoir
which functions similarly to the antechamber.
All Accura and Accura Elite valves and shunt systems include a
120 cm open-end integral distal catheters of radiopaque silicone
elastomer. Also included are one or more MRI compatible straight
connectors for shortening the system.
